Dinner at Monica’s

Friday night Alex, Ted and I had a fabulous dinner at Monica’s Waterfront Cafe and Bakery. The evening opened with a sharable antipasti board, the Peninsula Platter, with local sheep and goat’s cheese, pickled garlic scapes and peppers, hard boiled egg with caviar, meat and bread. This is the kind of platter you might have in Italy, simple local delicous food. With three of us we were able to try three dinners: dungeness crab mac and cheese, lemon pepper roasted chicken breast, and salad nicoise with perfect leaf lettuce. We shared an affordable and well chosen pinot grigio from East Wenatchee. Silky butterscotch pots de creme rounded out a splendid meal. Monica does the best job of any restauranteur in Kitsap County of sourcing ingredients from local farmers. Her cuisine spotlights the clean fresh flavors of the food. If you have longed to find a cafe that presents the fresh … Continue reading

Monica’s Bakery turns five!

Wandered into the bakery today to stock up on portable food for a day away from home and stumbled into an anniversary party. It started at eleven and runs to three – there’s music, wine and of course wonderful food. There are so few eateries that make the local food connection really work, Monica has been so successful at this, and it really shows in the fresh taste of her food. Stop in and wish her and everyone at the shop a happy anniversary! Links: Monica’s Waterfront Bakery and Cafe … Continue reading

Monica’s Waterfront Bakery and Cafe

Tucked away in a bright yellow building on the Silverdale waterfront is one of the best local food joints in Kitsap County. Monica’s Waterfront Bakery and Cafe lists the farms providing the day’s ingredients, and they’re all farms that provide my food too: Pheasant Fields Farm, Gregory Farm, All One Family Farm, and more! Monica’s wonderful menus include salads, sandwiches and soups. Recently I had a butternut squash soup that was as good as any I’ve ever tasted. The bakery provides fresh baked bread, pastries and pies. It’s great food with a great ethic. Monica’s not only supports local farmers, sourcing seasonal and organic-where-possible ingredients, but is a CarbonFree Partner, offsetting the cafe’s carbon footprint. The Cafe is open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, and is closed Sundays and holidays. Links: Monica’s Waterfront Bakery and Cafe … Continue reading
